David Beckham unveils a '99' inking on his hand - but why that number?
David Beckham has added to his extensive tattoo collection with a very meaningful new inking.
The 40-year-old revealed on Instagram today that he’s had the number 99 etched onto the little finger of his right hand and hinted that it brought back lovely memories for him.
’99 was a good year for me …,’ David wrote. Awww, we love it when you get all sentimental, Becks!
So just why was 1999 so special that the former footballer felt the need to mark it into his skin? The reasons are pretty adorable…
Firstly it was the year that he married wife Victoria in a memorably lavish ceremony held at Luttrellstown Castle in Dublin, Ireland. The pair – who had been dating since 1997 – famously sat on thrones after becoming man and wife and quickly became THE power couple of the celeb world.
The nuptials came just four months after the birth of their first child, Brooklyn. Becoming a husband AND a first-time dad within the space of a few months? Now that must have made 1999 a huge year for Becks!
David’s cute memories of 1999 don’t stop at family matters though. It was also an incredibly successful year as regards his football career, given that his then-club Manchester United scored the ‘treble’ (for non-footie fans, that means they won the Premiership title, the FA Cup and the Champions League – impressive!).
It was probably also the year that David firmly established himself as a fashion icon too, albeit through some rather dodgy clothing choices. Remember THOSE matching leather jumpsuits that he and Posh sported?
And what about the hairdos? 1999 was the sweeping blond curtains era that made Becks a bit of a heartthrob.
Lots of David Beckham fans have been reminiscing about that golden year after seeing the snap of his nostalgic tattoo.
