Dad-of-four David Beckham defends the decision to give Harper a dummy in an Instagram rant
David Beckham has responded to criticism over four-year-old daughter Harper’s use of a dummy in a very emotional Instagram rant.
In recent days there’s been some debate over the fact that David and Victoria Beckham’s youngest child continues to suck on a pacifier, with many experts suggesting that it can disrupt speech development and damage teeth.
But David, 40, has defended the choice to give Harper a dummy and sounded upset about the controversy it’s caused when he wrote about the argument on Instagram.
‘Why do people feel they have the right to criticize a parent about their own children without having any facts ??’ the retired footballer posted.
‘Everybody who has children knows that when they aren’t feeling well or have a fever you do what comforts them best and most of the time it’s a pacifier so those who criticize think twice about what you say about other people’s children because actually you have no right to criticize me as a parent …’
David’s passionate response to the debate sparked a lot of comments from his followers. Many agreed with the sports star, with one commenting: ‘well done for speaking out, you are a great dad and have a lovely family’
Another wrote: ‘All that matters is the Harper is happy and healthy!’
The debate is still raging on though. Some Twitter users are still not sure of the dummy, with one writing: ‘Harper Beckham is four years old and still has a dummy?!’
Other social media fans were simply more concerned about David’s use of American terminology in his post.
‘My only issue here @davidbeckham….pacifier! Your from London its a dummy!’ one follower wrote.
The controversy started earlier this week when David was pictured taking Harper out in Hollywood with a dummy in her mouth.
Victoria, 41, has not yet spoken out publicly about the debate.
